Babelsberg Observatory

The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) is located on the historic site of the Babelsberg Observatory. In 1913, the Berlin Observatory moved to Potsdam because the lights of the city of Berlin and vibration of its trains affected astronomical observations. Today the historic observatory buildings, along with modern buildings on the research campus Babelsberg are used for office and lab space while astronomical observations take place world-wide. Visit the research campus from a bird’s perspective or take a look at the historic observatory’s main dome with a great lens telescope.
